Music National Service | 2009 MusicianCorps DAVID PULPHUS is one of New Orleans’ premier bass players, touring and recording with internationally acclaimed artists such as Terence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis, Benny Golson, Harry Connick, Jr., and Tony Bennett. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, his studies with legendary jazz pianist and instructor Ellis Marsalis inspired his passion for teaching and furthering New Orleans musical traditions. David has designed and implemented multiple community-based music education programs for underserved youth throughout the city, and is particularly interested in introducing music to the youngest students to inspire lifelong learning and success. Service Sites: Langston Hughes Academy Charter School Service Mission: Develop elementary music program for Pre-K to 3rd grade students; Implement school-based “Music and the Brain” grant, linking early music instruction and cognitive ability; Coordinate with existing arts integration programs to prepare students for school and community-based music service opportunities.
