Hi Shannon, the "secret" (if I can even call it that) is that I used a reflector to bring more light to the subject (me in this case) and by doing so, I was able to set the camera (aperture) to keep the background on focus. For instance, check the guy riding the bike on the right hand, how dark and strong shadows. The reflector is doing the job!

I know nothing about photography other than "point, focus, CLICK" - how do you do it? how do you make him pop and at the same time focus in on such background detail?
