When asked, “Why do I do what I do?” I immediately thought of my past of being a rebellious teenager. My breaking the rules, bad ass attitude got me into serious trouble with my parents, sport coaches, and sometimes the police. After doing something stupid, my parents would ask: “Why do you do what you do? You know it’s wrong, illegal, and just dumb!” My smart-ass answer was always, “because you only live once.” Yes, this usually got me into even more trouble, but atleast I was being honest. At the end of my life, I want to look back and realize what a beautiful and fun life I lived. My life goal is to live my life to its full potential, meaning to live every second of my amazing life. I want to be able to love the life I live and live the life I love. Life is too short to regret anything. You cannot change the past but can take past mistakes to change your future. In life, you must take every opportunity you can. You never know if you will get a second chance. You must live as if you are dying. Don’t be afraid to take chances and risks. A guest speaker once told my senior class, “If it doesn’t harm yourself or others, you might as well do it.” This message has stuck with me; I have parasailed in Hawaii, rode scary roller coasters, swam with sharks, laughed until I cried, and loved with no fear. I only have one life to live so why not make the most out of it. I do what I do because I only live once.
