Who am I?
What do I do?
Why do I do it?
Who am I? I am a man whose actions are credited to my moral value that have been instilled in me through the way I was raised as well as my life experiences. I am a man who harps greatly on family values, and it influences practically every aspect of my life. On my back, a tattoo of my family crest is visible to anyone. The crest is a circular pattern that stands as the Nakazawa family crest of my rich Japanese heritage. On the side of my ribs, “warrior” in Japanese Hirigana is tattooed in bold symbols. These are two emblems that profoundly relate to who I am. The idea of family being one of the most important elements in life is a principle that my father, grandfather, and other relatives have constantly preached to me since I was a child. I am proud of who I am, and the family I come from. This has allowed me to form unbreakable relationships with my entire family. Also, this value has influenced my relationships with my friends in a positive manner. Because of my enduring family ties, I treat my closest friends as family. I would do anything for my closest friends, and I believe this has allowed me to establish lifelong friendships. The other tattoo symbolizing “warrior” is relative to why I do what I do. My grandfather has always told me the importance of having a strong character, great mental toughness, and to never give up on anything. I feel that this idea has motivated me in the right direction towards pursuing my goals in life. I have been a competitive athlete my entire life and this is my fourth year playing soccer for the UCLA men’s soccer team. No matter what downfalls I have experienced in my soccer career, whether that was bad games or injuries, I have bounced back with hard work and a “warrior” mentality in order to overcome the adversity. Similarly, in my academics I have followed a similar suit of living. This “warrior” lifestyle has pushed me to work hard in order for me to achieve my academic goals. No matter how hard a subject was I would study as hard as I needed, in order to pass the test. This warrior, “never give up”, attitude has molded me into the driven person that I am.
I am an active person who spends abundant time working on improving my skills as a soccer player as well as bettering my academic prowess. However, in my leisure time I can almost always be found outdoors, probably at the beach. I have always lived my life surrounded by the ocean, and have surfed since I was a young kid. I enjoy the outdoors, and whether it be surfing, fishing, or hiking through the mountains, I believe the freedom of being outdoors is a great satisfaction in my life.
