Why do you do what you do?
This is who I am… to define myself in a word, average. I’m a 19 year-old white, protestant male standing 5’11” with blue eyes and brown hair. To judge a book by its cover, unremarkable might come to mind, but to do so would be brash. To judge by looks only scratches the surface of a life eager for experience, and deep in the pursuit of happiness.
To understand who I am today I think you must look into my upbringing. When I was young my parents instilled in me an ambition to learn knowledge, to gain wisdom. As long as I can remember I’ve been questioning my father for information, until he became of little use then I looked to teachers and mentors. Outside of academics I tried a large variety of sports and gracefully failed at most of them. Up till high school I played in a different sport every season, but then I realized I wanted to play no other sport but football. Football, among other things, became a passion of mine. And honestly I was never that great at football, but at least I could run fast and hit hard. But then I hit college and realized I was too small for that passion, so now I live football vicariously through others and cry myself to sleep (figuratively).
Outside of sports I earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was in the top 5 of my class. I look forward to earning a B.S. in Bioengineering and one day hopefully researching the cutting edge of tissue engineering. I succeeded in being voted homecoming king of my class and failed to learn Spanish. I learned how to rebuild a car and became very adept at naming them, but never could play the piano.
More sincerely, I believe that ignorance is the root of all the world’s problems and an eternal element of human nature. I do what I do because I think its right, and I only hope that history judges it so.
