Banksy Art

In the past few weeks people have been gathering behind Urban Outfitters in Westwood in protest of the removal of a piece by Banksy, a British graffiti artist. Do you think that it is considered art and should not be removed or do you think that it is graffiti and needs to be removed? What are your thoughts on graffiti art in general?

  • Graffiti is street art, and street art is exactly that... art. I highly recommend Exit Through the Gift Shop, it's a cool take on Banksy and street art and shows the behind-the-scenes of the risks these guys take to do their art. Even though Thierry Guetta is kind of a tool, it's a great movie.
  • I have always appreciated graffiti as a quality art. I understand that graffiti has been abused and is considered a form of vandalism but I always think about how it must be so difficult to do because everything added to each piece is so permanent. Most pieces of art displayed in museums have been altered numerous times with erasing but this is not an option with graffiti. I hope they do not remove it.
  • It's cool to have the graffiti arts on walls, etc., but I don't think the owners of whatever properties those arts are displayed on should be blamed for removing them.
  • I hope this not be removed. they are cool art for me!
  • I think that graffiti is an art form, but I also think that art cannot be just done anywhere. It needs proper place to show the art.
    • I agree. Graffiti has unfortunately gained the reputation of being seen as vandalism, which takes away from its artistic value.
  • I feel that if he went public, and was recognized for his amazing art, it would be more respected by the community...
    • Ok but the whole mystery of him is the reason I believe he is so popular. People like to know that someone, or even more than one people in some views can make a statement through art. It is also a way for him not to be arrested for his work

  • I think it should be the decision of the store owner to keep the art or not, because by my opinion it has given his store a lot of recognition
    • i do agree with your opinion. However I feel that the true art of what he is trying to find is in the fact that know one can truly understand who to give the recognition to, and that in itself, is a very interesting aspect. your thoughts?
