  • I look back into my past actions and decisions when I try to figure out what kind of person I am or what values I value.
  • I agree. Most songs usually remind me of a certain moment or memory. I think thats the beauty of music

always make me think back of my high school days.....

    and perfumes do that too

  • I find myself recalling past memories when I am talking to my friends.  Something will come up in the conversation and I find myself saying "Oh! I remember this one time when I did so and so....".  Then after that conversation I think back a bit about that memory and reflect upon it.  Sometimes I wish I had done things differently, but then I know that I wouldn't be who I am today without making those choices and mistakes.  By simply reflecting on past events and memories helps me comes to terms on where I am today and makes me really excited for the future.
  • Whenever I feel upset about anything, I turn on music that I listened to during vacations or other happy points in my life.  I often feel reconnected to these moments and find reasons to be happy and appreciate things that I normally take for granted.  For example, I listened to a lot of Sublime over the summer.  During finals week, I played Sublime for study breaks.  This allowed me to relax and also helped motivate me to make it through the week.
    • Listening to sublime on its own helped you relax? That's interesting. I do agree that Sublime has a very calming affect.
  • Music definitely connects me with past memories. I often find myself listening to the same album for a long period of time and the end result is that whenever I hear that particular album again, it instantly conjures up past memories. Music helps me remember things and discover myself because I am able to connect it to things that happened in my past.

  • I definately agree. Music always remind me of my past. When I'm listeneing my music I always remind my memory which I listened the music at first time.
  • I too agree, Music brings back old memories and creates new ones. Music helps me remember my experiences and touches me emotionally. A song can make me happy but sad as well. My reactions to music/songs depend on the memories i created with that particular song or the emotion i feel when I hear it. Music helps me, It can make me smile, pump me up for a big game, help me cope with problems, and express emotions that words can't. My relationship with music is strong because I can use it for any type of emotion I might need it for.
  • I believe that music is the embodiment of memories through sound. I hear "Sweet Caroline," and I remember the endless dancing, sunbathing, and sightseeing from the cruise I went on last summer. If I hear "Dirty Pop," I remember simpler days when I was eight years old and my biggest problem was remembering what I thought was the best routine ever (but probably was a joke) for a talent show. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" reminds me of all the times I babysat my little brother, and playing that song was the only way to make him stop crying. It's amazing how sounds can bring a whole world back to you, remind you of good times and bad times alike. I can see how I've grown and changed throughout the years. I would definitely agree that these memories allow for reflection and discovery of oneself.
