Pool of Water

I viewed this piece at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and it was by far my favorite piece.  It was a blow up swimming pool filled with water and glass bowls of different sizes.  Waves were generated to allow the bowls to cling together and make noise.  Do you think something as simple as this is considered an art piece?

  • yes it is considered art but it is neither creative or impressive. It did not require much thought or time to make.
  • I feel like almost anything can be considered contemporary art these days.
  • I am not a big fan of this piece, but it is art according to most definitions. Since music and visual displays are both art, a combination of the two should definitely be considered art. However, it is a little bit weird to think that if power stopped generating this piece of work would not have full effect.
  • It reminds me of the game at the fair where you try to throw ping pong balls into bowls floating in water.  Usually you win a goldfish in a bag.  They should have put goldfish in the bowls.  That would've been beautiful.
  • well, if they do not cling the bowls together and do some special design, i may not feel this is art
  • this is definately an art to me
  • I would say that this is art. I think that it's a creative way to form some type of complex music. I would have to say that it is very abstract art.
  • This is very different. It is pretty interesting but I don't really understand the meaning behind it.
  • I think this thing is hideous.  I don't know how this can be considered art.  This looks like a ghetto backyard pool that someone accidentally dropped the lunch tray into.  It doesn't even look finished.  Do not understand how "artists" like this make a living...
    • I beg to differ, mainly because this doesn't look all that thrown together to me.  I feel that whoever created this piece put thought into the different sizes of the bowls and how they would create sound that would be heard throughout the entire floor of the museum.  If you do not believe this is art, what are your thoughts on that picture of a blue screen?
