Favorite lecture so far?

Now that the quarter is almost done with, I was wondering what classes you guys thought were the best or most memorable. Personally, I really enjoyed the Hot 8 brass band as well as the percussion/tap dance demonstration. Another one that I enjoyed, though not quite as much as the other two, was Tony Deiffel's lecture. What are your thoughts?

  • My favorite class so far are the student performing lectures. I think the performances are so creative and fun to watch. Want to see more performances but only had three lectures of performances. A very interesting class overall.
  • I really liked Walter Ponce's lecture, from week one I believe. He is such a skilled and nimble pianist I was literally in awe at his talents, and even then he is not the best. He really inspired be musically and I hope to be as good at an instrument as he is one day.
  • I really liked the one with Tony Deiffel. I got to see how different people live the world with different perspective.
  • I really liked the drumming and tap dancing lecture as well as the group performances.
  • The most memorable lectures are the presentations. I am really enjoying them because we are able to see our classmates talents and thoughts about the lectures on the spoofs.
  • I definitely like the interactive lectures more than the ones where we actually get lectured at. Tony Deiffel's lecture was cool and I liked the Hot 8 Brass Band but my favorite was the pair who came and taught us about dancing the Waltz. They made the class go by so quickly especially because they encouraged the entire class to go up and dance. Some of the dances were older and a little boring but the animal dances were funny.
  • The Walter Ponce lecture was also one of my favorites as well.  I didn't really know too much about classical music, and Ponce's expertise was truly remarkable.  It was interesting to be exposed to another genre of music that we don't hear that much today.  He seemed like he had a cool personality to go along with his extraordinary talent.
  • My favorite was the Walter Ponce lecture. I like how it integrated the background knowledge about pianos, Lisztomania, and evolution of music from the previous lecture with the great recital by Ponce. His live performance was great. He played with so much emotion that his finger started bleeding. I think that lecture really showed Winter's music expertise as he pointed out each and every thing about the music that I wouldn't have noticed on my own.
  • The polish director was probably my favorite out of all the lectures. The way he integrated some of the students in our class for the first time in all of our lectures made it fun and interesting. I remember myself trying to look above the heads of every other student trying to get a good view of what was happeneing, since every student seemed to want to know what was going on.
  • I would have to say I really enjoyed the Brass Band, Walter Ponce, and the Williams with his tapping and drumming. Basically anything involved with music. I loved Walter Ponce especially so because his fingers are like magic, he is able to do so much and he really captures the essence of feelings when he plays. The Brass Band was also remarkable along with the Drumming. That guy can shred on the drums, and he taps just as hard.
