I work hard to get an A, because I want to prove to myself that I can do it. I feel that because I am lucky enough to go to a school as special as UCLA, I should get everything out of it that I can.
Working for the A is not just for the GPA, but also to top off the great class. Having such a great class that you look forward to would be completed if you got the A. If you have a lot of fun in the class and don't get the grade you want, it would negatively influence the memories of the class and you would not appreciate it as well.
I really don't think the grade equals you. Reason being, is that sometimes we have a tough quarter in where we just have too much to do and we are not able to do so well. But the reason why I strive for A's is because if I earn A's then I have a cushion when I start applying to grad schools.
An A is important to me because it is what I work for all quarter for. An A is the award for working hard for ten weeks straight. I want an A to boost my GPA...With a high GPA, I will have a better chance to get into grad school... With grad school, I will have a better chance to be successful in life. It's the little things that matter.
I work hard to get an A because I feel that its one of many indicators of the work that I put into that class. Grades are by no means the only indicators of how much I take away from my classes, but I feel that it is a sign that a teacher is acknowledging that they think you did the work. it gives me a sense of affirmation.
Not only are A's essential to maintaining a good GPA, they also give you an idea of how well you know the material and how good you are at applying it. If you do well in the class, it's a symbol of recognition of all the hard work you put into it. It's always been important for me to maintain A's because I knew that if I worked hard enough I should be able to do anything, and getting an A tells me that I was able to succeed.
Working hard to get A in the class is not important to me at all. I do not work for the grade, I just work my best to get the best grade I can, even if the grade is a B or C. I would be satisfied as long as I had tried my best. I just CANT get A's from every class; it's just impossible for me. I remember the first programing class(CS31) I took here at UCLA, the class made me feel like I was mentally retarded or something. Taking the class with no programing experience at all, I had to work 10 time harder than my classmates(most of them have had some programing experiences) At first half of the quarter, I tried me best to understand the material; however I still failed the midterm(ranked around 73/78). I was so depressed at that time, but I did not give up. I worked even harder and scored above the average on the final. Even though I did not get an A in the class, I am satisfied with the grade I had because I really learned how to write C++ code in the class and I had tried my best.
Getting an A in a class does not mean anything to me. There are just classes like math that I do not have to work hard to get A's. However, trying my best to get a B or C means a lot to me. At least I know that's all I could do. I am accepting the fact that I am just not the best, but I want to be the one who tries his best. I have to say A is not me, I do not like A's. An A in the class just means the class is to easy for me. I need challenges, the challenges that could make me work me best.
Because its how the world judges your competency. Graduate schools, jobs, careers, etc. don't have the chance to get to know who you really are, so they depend largely on GPA, and that's why I work hard to get an A, so that I will have options to choose from in the future with a better transcript.
I work hard to get As because it is so self-gratifying! When I open my MyUCLA page and see an A next to the class name, there is no better feeling of both satisfaction and happiness at that moment. Not only that, but it is a huge de-stressor! It is important to get grades like these to boost our GPAs to acceptable numbers, because in the real world, grades play a huge role in determining what type of job and position you will receive. It tells the employer a lot about your work ethic and standardizes you against other students and applicants from such a great and competitive university like UCLA. Also, it makes my parents proud, which is always something I like to do. It also makes it a lot easier to get an A if you enjoy the class, which I definitely do.

I seriously need an A in this class. This will boost my GPA greatly since it's a five unit class.
Getting better grades will lead me to getting better job or getting into a better graduate school.
