An Everlasting Chase

Ring! Ring! Riiiiiiiing!Huh? It’s 6 a.m. already?Didn’t I just fall asleep 10 minutes ago…Snooze!Damn it, it’s 6:45 now!I jumble through my drawer for my volleyball uniform,Stuff a bagel in my mouth,Trip over last night’s dirty clothes, and almost choke on my pathetic excuse of a breakfast.I run out the door. And so begins my daily chase…I run to practice, only to run some more when I get there. But I forgot my books for class!I run back up that monstrous hill of death to my dormand again to the opposite side of campus. Now I’m starving! No joke, I’m about the start chewing on this desk.I run back up the hill again to the cafeteria, eat for 10 minutes, and sprint down again so I’m not late for weight lifting.I have 5 minutes to get to my next lecture…I gotta run!But I didn’t even shower yet…I gotta run!Shoot! I told Natalie I’d meet her before class too…I really, really gotta run!And run I did.But for what reason exactly?Because I am a mentally and physically devoted athlete? Yes, very much so.Because I am a student who values intellectual exploration? Of course.Because I am a good friend who believes that we should cherish the relationships we have with others? Yes, that as well. But most of all, because I want my life to be an everlasting chase.Because this endless and tiring pursuit is the one thing that makes me feel alive.I feel almost that if I let myself stop at any one moment,I might not ever find a way to move again.I know that life is very limited in time, and that one day we will all have to stop moving whether we like it or not,so until that day comes,I have chosen to live it running.and not walking to the finish line.

  • Excellent self reflection! Sounds very familiar!!

...Is this the finish line - or just the beginning of an even bigger "Everlasting Chase?"

  • This literally is my life in a nutshell, always rushing somewhere, to class or practice. But all in all, i believe we are doing it for the right reasons, and I couldnt be happier with my life right now.  Rushing may be a drag, and so is the death hill plus stairs all the way to my dorms, but ultimately it is all worth the success and victory in the end.
