I consider myself as a work in progress or as a story with open ending. Stories and artworks have one thing in common: they evolve. Each stroke of a brush matters and influences the way the painter as well as the viewer see the stroke next to it. Blue looks different next to white than it does to black. Also the painter cannot really eliminate the face that he has just painted. Though he can over paint it and thus change its expression. The same goes for my life. All my past experiences will definitely influence what I will do next. Not only will my past experiences have an impact on the “Why” of my future decisions, but also on the “how”, which is why having been to a small and very poor village in Morocco this summer, I see the educational program that I enjoy at UCLA through completely different eyes (just as a blue stroke of a brush makes the red one next to it look very different). Therefore, in a certain way, my past has an impact on why I do what I do. However I don’t consider myself as predetermined, as I feel totally free to choose between different things that I am going to do next. This freedom of choices is a great luxury. During my last year of high school I applied for colleges in Germany, France and the USA and was also considering to do work an travel in Australia. Finally I had so many different choices and it was really hard for me to make a decision. I asked myself very often: What shall I do? And why this and not that? Certainly the children, who I met in Morocco during this summer, don’t ask themselves very often: Why do I do what I do? In the worst case they just survive and don’t live. To live means living consciously, which implies asking questions.I definitely want to ask myself a lot of questions about the world I live in as well as about myself. I consider myself to be a very curious person who is eager to make a lot of different experiences. For these reasons my biggest passion is probably traveling. I feel that traveling enriches my horizon. Not only different places, but also especially people from other backgrounds attract me because they make me ask questions, such as: Why do I do what I do?
