When I was asked the question, Why do you do what you do? it was very difficult for me to grasp the reasoning of why I do the things I do. I mean you would think that is would be an easy question to answer, but you really have to dig deep to find the importance of why do you do the things you do. It definitely made my mind think and explore how I go about things in every day life. As I was thinking about the question, so many different things came to mind such as volleyball, social, family, friends, and my personality. But, the one that seems to define why I do what I do is because i hold my self to a higher standard and expect myself to perform the tasks that I am given.
Ever since I was a little kid, I have always done what I was told, whether if my parents told me to do my chores, or whether my teacher assigned homework; no matter what, I would always complete the tasks that were given to me. You could say that I am different from most people because I hold myself at a high standard and expect to be great at whatever I do. No matter what the challenge may be, such as playing sports, cards, driving, studying etc., I always do it with a purpose. When I walk away from completing a task, I feel a sense of satisfaction because I know that I worked hard and put all my effort into that specific task. I am not a prefectionist, but I would rather consider my self to be someone who is very efficient with their work and gets things done on time. For example, when a teacher assigns homework that isn't due till the following week, I will complete the assignment the day it was assigned. Most students would procrastinate till the last minute, but I would do it right away because I hate waiting to do things at the last minute and I start stressing about not doing it. Before I go to sleep every night, I evaluate the things that i completed in the day and make sure that I got all my homework done, wrote emails to important people, or whatever comes to mind. This evaluation makes me feel satisfied with myself and how productive my day was. I know that it seems weird to others, but satisfaction to me is really important because it makes feel good about myself.
The things that I do are not normally what others would do because they are either lazy or don't have that competitive mind like I do. I was raised by the two most amazing parents who have a keen knowledge for sports, life, people, and how to take care of oneself. They would always tell me that if I were going to do something, whether it is a sport, making a friend, doing homework, or driving, they would tell me to do it with a purpose. Having my parents reiterate that thousands of times made me realize that doing things with a purpose makes me feel satisfied about myself. If you hadn't already noticed, I am an athlete, specifically a volleyball player, and being an athlete is such a privilege because not only do you learn to do things on the court with a purpose, but also apply it to the outside outside world. (such as friends, health, diet, sleeping, family, and studies). I always do more than what I am told to do. For example, my dad would always tell me "it is everyday. There are no off days in order to be the best." He would tell me this over and over again because he knows that I am capable of being a spectacular volleyball player. So, having that embedded in the back of my mind, made me do things with a purpose and go the extra mile. I eat healthy, I make sure that I get plenty of sleep, I stay on top of my studies, I workout everyday, I have some sort of balance in my life whether it is going out with friends or listening to music to have my down time. All of these things that I do, I do it because I want to and it makes me feel satisfied about myself. Most of my friends go out on the weekends, stay up late, eat junk food, and don't take good care of themselves. I mean it's not a bad thing, but I those sorts of things just don't really appeal to me. I mean I love hanging out with friends and having a great time, but I don't see how these kids can do it every weekend. I am just amazed at how these people just treat their bodies.
So, back to the question, why do I do the things that I do? The reason I workout everyday, eat healthy, get plenty of sleep, complete my homework on time, socialize with friends, and plan out my days is because I get a sense of satisfaction at the end of the day knowing that I was productive and got things done.
Why do you do what you do? Because I am content with who I am
