Because I don't want to miss out.

It is difficult to answer a question as broad as “Why do you do what you do?” without putting much thought in beforehand. There are so many different areas of life that this question can apply to, and to be honest, I never explicitly thought about the reasons as to why I do what I do before this project was assigned. Once I managed to get past the obvious answers of “to get into college” or “my parents want me to” or “to get a good job”, I came to the conclusion that I do the things I do because I don’t want to miss out. There is so much in life to experience, and such a limited time to experience it, that it is impossible to experience everything. It makes me uneasy simply thinking about how many things that I will have missed out on by the end of my life. Although it makes me uneasy, it is a useless question to think about. It is never useful to think about the past in a negative manner and to think what you could have done, but instead, you should think about what you have done and what you still have the ability to do. Because I don’t want to miss out on much of what life has to offer, I try to learn about many different things, participate in a wide variety of activities, and make sure I miss out on as little as possible. For example, I like the outdoors and playing sports, but sometimes I also love to sit inside and read or study. Part of the reason my major is still Undeclared is because I can’t make the decision what I want to learn about most. The way I see it, if I choose one subject area, then I think about all of the subject areas that I am eliminating by choosing that one. I think that not wanting to miss out on what life has to offer is positive rather than negative. It allows me to experience many new things and to try things I never would have if I were more close-minded. I am proud of why I do what I do and I can only hope that I will continue to try and experience as many new things as possible throughout my lifetime.
