Because I have the support of my family and friends.

Life presents many opportunities, but it is in one’s actions that success will be made.   In forty years I do not want to regret any decision I made, rethink my choices, or know I could have done one thing differently to make my life better.  My family, friends, and hard work have always helped me to be successful in my life so far, that I want to be proud of everything I have accomplished and continue to do.

One of my best friends died at the age of 18.  She was a smart, lively, and dedicated, senior in high school, ready to go off and experience that “iconic” college lifestyle.  Because she has passed, she will never experience that.  It is scary to think that at the age of 18 you experience so little of what your life will actually be.   Packing for college, meeting many new people, and living away from home are only some of the daily experiences she will never have.  I can only imagine what she could have become after going through college, grad school, marriage, or whatever she encountered in her later years.

Her incident reminds me of how lucky I am to be healthy and faced with so many wonderful opportunities to be successful and happy.  All the support from family and friends is what drives me to do my best and make them proud of all the dedication they have put into my life.  I struggle through many of the tasks I am faced with; but when successful, I feel as though I am bettering not only my life, but the lives of others I influence as well.  I cannot live my life for myself only, because I would not be where I am today without the help of many others.

I know I am going to be faced with tough experiences and decision in my future but I stay strong because I know I have support and because there have been others, just like me, who have struggle with the same questions but have succeeded.  I also stay strong because I know not everyone is graced with the same opportunities; because of this I have to make smart decisions and represent those who cannot speak out.  Life is never about one person, but instead the connection of each individual to one another.  Every opportunity and decision affects another person, which in turn, affect the world.
