Can you remember the last time you did anything perfect? For example, when was the last time you bowled or threw a perfect game? The last time I can honestly say I did something perfect was when I was in the 8th grade. That was the year when I got straight A’s in all my classes. I was never a super smart kid but I am lucky enough to have an awesome family and parents who believe in me.
Growing up, I can remember my dad waking up at 5 o’clock in the morning to go to work while my mom would work night shifts at a Jack in the box sometimes until 4 a.m. Both of them work really hard and never complain which gives me inspiration even know.
Up until that year, I had been extremely close to getting straight A’s but I was never able to. I remember talking to my parents before that school year started and telling them that my goal for that year was to get straight A’s. They knew that it was extremely important for me to do it, although they never understood why but they encouraged me never the less.
My worst subject by far was math. That class almost always was the reason why I didn’t get straight A’s. That year, I was selected to take an advance algebra class which I thought would make it even more difficult for me to achieve my goal. But every time I was down, I would think of how hard my parents were working in order to provide for me and my siblings and I found the inspiration I needed to keep working.
When I received the report card in the mail along with a certificate saying that I had made the principle’s honor role, my whole family was extremely proud of me. I knew from that moment on that school was for me and my parents were a big part of my success by simply believing in me.
Why I Do What I Do: Because I know that I can overcome any challenge with my family’s support.
