I have been through a lot of changes in my life, big and small. But the one thing that has remained constant is my love for the English language. Since I was a small child, I have felt this strange kinship with words. I love how a certain arrangements of words could mean one thing, and with a single minute change the entire meaning of the sentence can be altered. My love for English has been something that I have always been aware of, and I have always wanted to explore all the possible avenues.
When I was chosen as an editor in class 11, I never realized that it could have such a major impact on my life. Before that, I was aimless, with no particular goal in mind, but being an editor made me realize how much I enjoy the task of looking over someone’s work and knowing that they have trusted me with the task of making their work better, or more eloquent. Being surrounded by like-minded people gave me a joy that I simply cannot express in words. I would spend all day sitting and putting together the layout for our school magazine, or editing articles, and be disappointed when the final bell rang. There was no greater joy than turning a raw piece of work into an expressive article, knowing that I made it possible.
Words hold a certain mystique for me. They are like a mystery I want to solve, to unravel. I find it fascinating how they can help people express emotion they otherwise would not have been able to show. They are magical, and I want to learn how to wield that power usefully and correctly. My love for English has been something that I have always been aware of.
Why do I do what I do? I want to make the full use of the talents I possess. Being able to influence other’s works in such a way is the reason why I chose English not only as my major, but also as my path in life. Its something I want to dedicate my life to doing.
