Because someone has too!!

When faced with the question “why do you do what you do” I was very puzzled and stuck on how to analyze its meaning and correctly answer it. This question can be answered so many different ways based on the multitude of different activities that I engage in every day. I decided that my activity should be something that I love, something I that have a passion for. I thought a lot about all of these different questions and came to the conclusion that the topic that I am going to choose to answer, the” what” portion of  “why do you do what you do”, is Track and Field. But what about the “why” portion of why do you do what you do? Why do I do track and field? From a small child I was always interested in sports I played a variety of different sports, but they were always just phases to me, something that I did for the moment. Then I got to high school and started running track and field. I fell in love with it and particularly the event of high jump. It made sense to me and I excelled to a level that I never imagined and now I am competing at the college of my choice UCLA for their track and field team.  Jumping became something defined me and I plan on mastering to a point that only a select few will ever reach. I plan on escalating my skills even further and making it onto the Olympic team. So the answer that I have chosen for the “why” in “why do you do what you do” is, because someone has too! This is a simple but complex and ultimately true concept: There can only be one winner, one champion, one Olympian, one hero, one exceptional person, but it has to be someone. Some people grow up their entire lives just trying to be ordinary at something. I am the type of person that doesn’t want to be just ordinary but extraordinary. At the end of the day, the greatest competitor is the winner and steps up when the time calls. I have made the commitment to be that person who steps up and becomes the champion. I am Alexis Walker and I excel at track and field in the high jump why, because someone has too.
