Digital Canvas

I don't have a life-changing story to explain what I do. Simply, from time to time, I enjoy having the chance of being a completely different person. I define myself as a realist but my imagination wanders anywhere but in the realm of the real world. To feed this need to travel across boundaries, I began writing. But soon I realized that writing didn’t satisfy my need of expression; I needed actual colors, shapes, and textures.

I enjoy working in the digital medium because it allows me to correct any mistake that I make relatively easily, unlike everything that you do in the real world. You can give people wings, merge rivers and mountains, and turn day into night, without ever getting out of your chair. I suppose that it’s like playing God on a digital canvas. But I do it because I get to express my emotions through a channel that I don’t encounter everywhere at school or at work. Art has taught me to develop my own style and voice; no matter how I follow the conformity of my science and mathematics classes, I still maintain my identity.

Being someone professional and focused on the outside is more difficult than it seems. I wouldn’t be able to do it if I didn’t have an activity to turn to. Some go to shooting ranges to relieve their stress, others do intensive workouts, etc. As a very indoors person, I’d rather sit in front of my computer and make something not necessarily beautiful, but very meaningful. I get to synthesize all the patterns and themes in my life and represent them in a different form. I get to draw inspiration from music, up and coming fashion, creative writing, anything. In the end, it’s a win-win because I appease myself but produce something that could be meaningful to someone else.

So why do I do what I do? Because I, just, do… It’s not my career path and how I stumbled upon it is merely by chance. But I keep going back to art because there are no rules. No matter how odd or unfinished a piece may look, there is always someone out there who will understand the concept behind it.
