FEAR OF THE SILENCE-WYDWYD

As a young female, I have adapted to certain things that are truly unequal, unfair, and unjust. There has always been a mountain in the way of a goal or a dream. But the mountains of life aren't always there to make things difficult. They are there to make you fight for what you want and live for tomorrow’s success. With every struggle I have faced, I sacrifice to make things better. I am the girl, with light brown hair, asian eyes, dark skin, the daughter of a Salvadorian mother, and a Peruvian-Japanese father. I seek for change and find it difficult to not say what I feel. My opinions are never wrong, but I am not always right. Every day I am reenforced to use my freedom. Some freedoms we have are the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the right to a free education. The one freedom that we should use more frequently is freedom of speech. This country is based upon the power to act, speak, and think without externally imposed restraints, yet Americans fail to fulfill this privilege. In the United States freedom of speech is allowed. I do it because I CAN and I Will, not because I am ENTITLED to. I speak out against social injustice and racial discrimination. I speak out because I am not just a number. I speak out for the silent voices needed to be heard. I speak out because I am an American citizen. We all have this freedom in the United States, but few choose to use it. Many people do not speak up for what they believe in and this is the epitome of personal defeat. When people do not speak their minds, nothing changes because no one says what they want and changes are never made. The United States is the land of the free, but to truly be free Americans, ask yourself, what is FREEDOM?
