Growing up, my grandpa took care of me a lot and taught me a lot of things. One thing he taught me was the sky was the limit and he always helped me in whatever I was interested. When I wanted to learn how to read, he got me my first library card. When I wanted to become an astronomer for a very short phase in my life, he bought me a telescope. When I wanted to learn to drive, he was the first person to sit with me behind the wheel. He taught me that anything was possible and it didn’t matter whatever anyone else thought about it. If I wanted to do something, he was always 100% behind me. I never felt like following anyone else because I was always too busy following what I wanted to do.
All the bad experiences in our lives with people have molded us and made us the person we strive to become. Whether it was to prove someone wrong or to convey what we already knew to ourselves that others couldn’t see. When I younger, I made a friend who would end up being one of the most influential people in my life. She made me realize that there was a lot more to me and I was more capable of a lot of things than I gave myself credit for. Although this wasn’t the fondest friendship in my mind, it taught me that no one person could determine who I was, because every thing I was capable of was all on me. Everyday I do the things I do to convey to the world that I believe I really am and try to only follow the beat of my own drum.
