For My Dad

Why do you do what you do? I constantly asked myself this question and could not come up with an answer. Not until I realized the cruelty of the real world did I find my answer. I decided to dedicate my life to one man who has endured such hard upbringings and that man is my dad.

My dad is a man with great perseverance and integrity. He does not give up no matter how difficult the situation and never backs down from a “no”. My father was a 1st generation Korean immigrant who not only suffered from language barrier and a totally new atmosphere but also poverty. A few years later, during his eighth grade, his father passed away, and their family business burned down the next day. My father was constantly battling for money in order to survive. After looking back at his life, I felt a great sense of love as well as honor to be his son. Though he may not be some powerful figure or even have enough money to buy me a new car, my father remains the one and only inspiration in my life. It was then I decided to live for him. To achieve things he could not achieve. To finish what he started and could not finish.

My father wanted to become a doctor ever since his dad passed away. However, due to financial difficulties, he had to take a different route. My father wanted to build an organization that helps teens undergoing the same situation so that he may guide and care for them. He wants to make sure no one feels the pain he had to live with. As his son, and his number one fan, I dedicated my life to become a doctor whom he dreamed to be and to build the very organization in which he dreamed of. I have received so much from my dad that I owe him at the very least to complete what he started. I do what I do because I love my dad.
