For the people I love, and my future.

When we first got this assignment I was excited to look into my life and explore myself.  “Why do you do what you do?” Once I sat down and really thought about the answer to that question, I realized the answer wasn’t all that simple. First, I made a list of my daily activities that basically define me as a person. I am Student- Athlete at the University of California Los Angeles. I play on the Women’s Water polo Team, and am a second year English major.  That was it; these two things are what define me, Student- Athlete.  I had always known that, but I had never really thought as to why I do what I do, until now. I had mixed emotions, I didn’t know if I was proud or disappointed in the self-definition I gave myself.

 

I kept pondering on what school and water polo do for me. I tolerate school, but it not my favorite thing in the world. I love water polo, but my athletic career can only last so long.  Then I realized how much I appreciate my life. I am going to one of the best Universities in the nation, for school and water polo. I am a daughter, sister, teammate, and friend. My family has always been there for me and I know they are proud of who I am. I am part of the best water polo program and have the best teammates I could ever wish for.  Along with that, I have my friends, friends that will be in my life through thick and thin. That’s when it hit me; it is a simple answer. I do what I do because I want the best for myself. School will give me education and a career. Water polo is my passion and hobby; I purely just love playing the game. I do what I do because I am a hard worker and want the best possible future I can create for myself. I love my family, teammates, and friends; they are the people that motivate me to do what I do. In the end I know why I do what I do, and am proud of my self-definition.
