Stefan GronvoldArts and Architecture10/09/09Why you do what you do?My name is Stefan Gronvold and my decisions tend to be driven by my aggressive and competitive nature. These qualities are rooted in my childhood experiences and upbringing. My attributes began developing at a very early age evidenced by the cutthroat evening board games among the family when I was 4. These bursts of aggression and competiveness seem to repeat every few hours or whenever any challenge presents itself. Although any competition is enough to entice me, the main joys of my day are the pool table and racquetball court. I chalk up my pool cue; rack the balls into a neat triangle formation and immediately someone arises from their lazy day position on the couch to play. Immediately after a ball flies into the hole, the squabble and sparing of words begins. The reason I partake in this competition is for the spirit of facing a worthy opponent and the rush I get from an exhilarating victory. The same intensity can be found in my unwavering ardor for Racquetball. Although I frequently win most games, occasionally one of the brothers in my fraternity will show signs of brilliance and outplay me, which just further motivates my ready for action persona. Despite the fact that I have always been this way the reason I continue to do what I do, is because of the environment I live in. I live in a fraternity house of 40 testosterone driven males. The fuels of competition drive us all for none of us enjoy hearing the laughter over a defeat at dinner. When you live with your best friends, brothers and even fiercest rivals, it would be naïve to believe that outlandish competition and heated rivalries do not arise. However this constant driving force allows me to achieve remarkable feats and has contributed to my development in this last nostalgic year. This has allowed me to achieve success to a certain degree in the early colleges years and I only imagine that it will continue to further my abilities and desires as a person. The reason I do what I do is that I have a competitive atmosphere of the best kind, one that never quits.
