Happiness of Photography

What are we passionate about? Do we do things because we are passionate about it? Is my passion for food the same kind of passion for photography? I don’t think these kinds of passions can be compared. They are so different from each other, yet they still make up a huge part of who I am. Plenty of things make me who I am but as I think about them and why I do the things that I do, I have to consider—Am I doing this out of love of others or greater cause or out of my own selfish desires, or pride, or applause of people? For the two of my above mentioned passions, I would say that I love them a lot. They give me character. There is something about food that brings me comfort and happiness. But photography does not give me this same happiness and joy. It is a different kind of joy. It is the joy of capturing a picture perfect moment and being able to savor that moment. I bring a camera with me a majority of the time because I don't like missing chances to capture special moments. I like to randomly take out my camera (or camera phone) whenever I can picture in my head, a photographic moment. It doesn't even have to be anything special. There's just something about capturing a certain angle or certain moment that entices me.I became more passionate about photography towards the end of my freshman year in college. My cell phone (Sony Ericsson 880i) had a camera on it and I used it often. I also occasionally used our old family camera (Olympus Stylus 400) but I didn’t have my own camera aside from my camera phone. Disappointed by the two megapixel quality I was getting from pictures on my phone, I saved money for two years to buy myself a digital camera (Canon SD 880 IS) and then later bought a DSLR (Canon Rebel XS). My pictures may not be the best pictures in the world, but they are still special to me.
