I met him for the first time when I was just a kid. However, I was too little to understand his love for me. Although I acknowledged his presence and realized what he has done for me, it wasn’t until I personally experienced his love for his children in the mission field that I confessed my love for him.
Every summer, I have the privilege of living humbly. I pack my black suitcase, take my passport, and prepare myself for a worthy adventure. Every time I arrive at Santa Almo, swarm of ninos come running towards me, hugging, jumping, and tugging, greeting me as if I’m one of their own. During one trip, I met a six-year old girl named Ana. She had the most beautiful eyes and the prettiest smile on her face.
She lives in a small community with several other families. She has an older brother and a mom who wear the same clothes every day. They live in a one-room house with a kitchen that is shared by the whole community. They’re source of water for cooking and cleaning is all in one bucket of water. Even though she has so little, she always had a smile on their face. Her life was full of joy and happiness although she didn’t have any luxuries that we have here in America. On the last day, Ana handed me a drawing of her and me holding hands and it said, “I love you” in Spanish.
After my experience in Mexico, my heart reached out for these kids. I wanted them to experience His love for them just as I did. Every summer for the past 3 years, I visited Mexico with luggage full of clothes and the gospel to share with the kids. I wanted them to experience His everlasting grace and unconditional love. When these kids held my hand and came to worship Him, I was amazed and thankful to God.
Why do I do what I do? Because I want his children to experience His love that he revealed to me when I was a kid. As a student, friend, and a daugher, I do what I do to glorify Him. His love for his children is unconditional and everlasting. It’s the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. In his love, I have a purpose in life: to glorify him and to enjoy him forever.
