I do what I believe

Why do you do what you do? How many people in this world would have thought about this question or had answers for it? Why do you eat only three times a day, sleep lately and wake up lately, watch Japanese TV shows, have thousands of facebook friends, buy smart phones and tablet PCs, listens to the hip hop, study at Powell, hate math, gossip with friends at Starbucks for hours, use Mac PC, or drink alcohol? Will we be able to have just one simple answer that can explain all of these specific questions? I think the question “why do you do what you do” leads to “Why do you live?” or “What is the purpose of your life?” I am actually glad that I got the chance to think about this question.

Before answering “why do you do” part, I think I need to answer “what you do” part. What do and did I do? I, born in Korea, came to UCLA as an international student after graduating from high school in Korea. I am majoring in electrical engineering, and nowadays I am studying hard to succeed in this field planning to go to graduate school. This is how I would explain myself when I am asked “What do you do?” or “Who are you?”. It is not really special, but as a student, since the academic part of my life is very important, I would definitely say about that first when introducing myself.

You may ask me then “why do you study?”, “why did you decide to come to the US from Korea?”, or “Why do you major in electrical engineering?”. As I answer these questions, go deeper and deeper by asking why again and again, I think I would finally reach to my religious reason. As a Christian, all my values, morals, and purposes of my life are connected to God. I do my best in everything to be successful in my life in order to glorify my God. I want to be successful in my academic and in my career because I am sure that I can influence many people and show them God’s existence. This is how I learned and told from my childhood. Every person does according to his or her belief. I want to and decide to do because I believe so.
