I do what I do because I want to leave behind a legacy of excellence. Just as the idea of legacy drove Achilles to become the greatest warrior of his time, I am driven to be remembered as a compassionate, hard-working, and impassioned individual. In the grand scheme of things, a human’s lifetime is just a moment in the long and steady march of Father Time. It is truly difficult to comprehend the idea of life on a universal scale—and mentally exhausting to try. But, inevitably, I have been led to one important conclusion. Once a man passes, all he has left is the way he is remembered. And this idea of legacy lasts much longer than any person’s life will. Michael Jordan realized he could be remembered as “His Airness” and “Air Jordan”—and these names would last much longer than his basketball career. And much like Jordan, Kobe Bryant is driven by his desire to be considered the greatest of all time. I have come to the realization that most great men understand that every day they are creating and adding to their legacy, striving to be remembered as an accomplished individual. Because of this, I strive for excellence in any and all my endeavors. I do what I do to positively impact the way I will be remembered by the people I care the most about. I want my family and friends to remember me as a positive influence on their lives. I dedicate myself to making every effort to act compassionately and pour my heart and soul into my undertakings, as if every activity was my last. Once an impression is made, it takes twice as much effort to change that impression, for better or for worse. As time continues to speed by, I want to make the most of my time at every juncture of my life, creating lasting impressions that speak to the passion with which I apply myself. When I look back at my life as an old man, I want to have the ability to say I tried my hardest and accomplished my goals. I do what I do to be remembered as someone that lived with no regrets.
