living the life

Someone once told me “One day, your life will flash before your eyes… make sure its worth watching;” it has stuck with me ever since. However, everyday I see people just trudging through their lives while complaining about their problems. Seeing this kind of attitude irritates me, especially because I used to be one of them.I came from a successful wrestling team in high school, winning most of the tournaments we went to. Though, wrestling skills and athleticism were not the most important thing that I had acquired being on that team. I met a man that changed my life forever, my wrestling coach. Everyday he stressed to us that if we had to choose, he would much rather us be good people than good wrestlers. He would tell us inspirational stories, make us talk to him about our problems; he transformed our wrestling team into a family. I remember one day he just came in the wrestling room looking depressed, and we wondered what was wrong. He sat in the corner and called all of us over and told us how he and his wife were having problems and things were not going smoothly. As he sat there and cried, we started crying too, because if one person on the team has problems, then it affects all of us. He came back to us the next day and told us, that the best thing about life is having a tomorrow. No matter how bad a day went, the beauty about the sun rising is that you can start over again and right all the things that went wrong yesterday. To be better people than we were yesterday. That ideal has been with me since, and now, I am constantly trying to improve myself in some day, whether it is to be a better cook, faster runner, or just being friendlier. And maybe one day, I can in turn be able to reflect my ideals to a group of people and touch their lives the same way my coach has touched mine.
