“Everyone dies but not every man lives” – William Wallace.I live as a hiker and what I do is…I explore places in nature and go on journeys through time and space, with nothing in my heart but desire for a place. A place that I can escape the noise of cities and altogether sound. A place that is beautiful whether I go up, down, or all around. This is why I do what I do. I hike to reach places many have never been. To waterfalls and great trails I can explore and then descend. It takes only one trip, one adventure, to bring a lifetime of lessons that you will always remember. Hiking reflects who I am because it presents me with situations in which I realize whom and what is most important to my life. Have you ever heard of the saying you are a combination of the people you hang out with most? Well that is what defines me and my values. Family is a big value to me, along with values such as gratification and respect. Through nature I am presented with dangerous situations in which I am thankful for all that I have my family, my life, and nature in general to enjoy. An example of this would be the most beautiful place I ever hiked and explored to as well as the scariest place.Havasu falls, located in the Grand Canyon with its famous crystal blue water and red clay rock. Descending down the hill I decided to take a swim. The great falls suddenly pulled me in, I was pushed beneath the strong waters. My arms which were once squirming were then relaxed with the deepest sleep. No air came in but rather a mouthful of the bittersweet water came rushing in. Then in a sudden motion, that same water rushed out my lungs and tears flooded my eyes. I was in disbelief. So why do I do what I do? Because I am still alive to do it.Going on hikes to new places is what I do; it is what allows me to escape the congested city life along with its dense and polluted self-absorbed atmosphere. We become so wrapped up in our daily routines we become trapped in our own little worlds through the internet, iPods, and television shows; so much that we do not realize the beautiful world we are actually living in.
