Nick Quincey: WIDWID

I wish I was still in Italy. I just got back from a nine day trip and it was there I realized why I do what I do. I went with my dad and sister, but other than them, most of the other people in our tour group were over the age of sixty. While on a long ride back from San Gimignano to our hotel, I had a revelation: I don’t want to have to wait until I’m a senior citizen to experience what the world has to offer. I saw Michelangelo’s David, the Coliseum, cathedrals, basilicas, the leaning tower of Pisa and more, but most important of all I was exposed to a culture and way of life that I had never imagined. It was awesome, but it was also complete luck that I was able to go on the trip at such a young age.UCLA is what I do right now, and I have realized that I attend UCLA because I don’t want to be sixty when I start experiencing the world. UCLA is a giant university and it provides an obvious opportunity to receive a great education, but it also provides a unique opportunity to get a small taste of many different cultures. This mixture of a great education and cultural exposure provides limitless further opportunities. It is my goal to blend what I receive out of my time at UCLA into a career and/or lifestyle that allows me to experience the world throughout my life, not just after I retire. That's WIDWID.
