Have you ever asked yourself, “what’s the closest object to you?” As one would image, the majority of people would probably respond in a generic fashion. Typically people are close to family, friends, pets, and on occasion some material items. Personally, I believe that the new generation is highly attached to material objects; material goods that can be replaced, re-used, and repackaged if marketed correctly. Unfortunately, I believe that I am no different than other members of my generation. As a member of Generation Y I can confidently say that I am totally dependent and attached to a specific material item. This specific item happens to be my T-Mobile Sidekick. This trademark cellular device has brought T-mobile notoriety and success within Generation Y. There is no doubt in my mind that the T-Mobile Sidekick series of phones is strictly targeted to the youth of American, age 14-22. Within recent years, sales figures and projects can illustrate their success. The original T-Mobile Sidekick was released at the turn on the century as a new phone that combined the dimensions of “two-way” texting and calling capabilities. With the development of the Sidekick II T-Mobile expanded their technological services and target range. Within the last decade, T-Mobile has had over five different series and versions of its notarized cellular device. On the eve of my twelfth birthday I was ecstatic to receive my presents. I knew that it was a matter of time until I receive my personal cellular device. When I awoke and ran to my parent’s room eagerly awaiting my gifts. As prescribed, my mother handed me my first cellular device. That phone just so happen to be the T-Mobile Sidekick II. As a child I loved and cherished this phone for its sleek look and capabilities. When I entered high school I had decided that it was time to upgrade phones. I moved on to the T-Mobile Sidekick 3. This specific phone was directly targeted to the African-American youth. In retrospect I can safely say that it worked perfectly. Many of my peers had attained this phone, or they had a burning desire to obtain the device. This cellular phone contained every aspect of my life. The phone never left my side. I was one of the individuals who could text with my eyes completed closed. There was never any need for me to access the internet or any other technological advance because my phone was very capably of doing so. On rare occasions when I had left my phone behind, I felt lost in the world. When I entered college I realized that such a dependency was unnatural and unhealthy. In recent years Id like to think that ive grown apart from my new T-Mobile Sidekick LX (4).
