Proving Doubters Wrong

“You can’t do it, Brian!”“You’re so skinny!”“Just give up already. No use in trying!”I slowly catch my breath, as I add weights onto the straight bar. My workout is almost complete, but my mentality and self-image are only expanding its horizons. It wasn’t always this easy for me. Through the blood, sweat, and tears, I gained a greater perspective of the dedication and commitment required to attain life’s desires. From my humble roots, people never believed a scrawny, little kid suffering from asthma belonged in the local gym. They laughed; they ridiculed; they never gave me a chance. Absorbing the doubts and disbeliefs of others, my flame of motivation slowly sparked, growing slowly with each person’s lack of faith. They always said it wasn’t about the size of the dog in the fight, but what mattered was the size of the fight in the dog. And what was I? A Jack Russell terrier with the mentality of a ferocious pit-bull. Allowing time to train everyday, I would no longer allow doubters to hinder my life’s progression, but utilize their skepticism as a method to fuel my drive. The minutes at the gym turned to hours, hours to days. Days turned to weeks; weeks turned to months. After several years, the results were evident and people took notice. They no longer doubted the once thin and feeble little boy, because the pounds and pounds of muscle gain showed. Don’t let doubters hold you back from your full potential. Prove them all wrong.
