It’s eight in the morning and I am watching high school kids coming in to get their SAT practice tests from me. After they have their own exams, they will start immediately and I have to stay there with them to make sure that they do not cheat. After about three and half hours, I collected the answer sheet from everyone and said good-bye to everyone. But I have to stay to use computer to grade their scores for them to be ready for tomorrow’s class with teachers. This is my part time job. It is easy but boring.
At first, I thought this job is very repetitive. However, I started to talk and get to know those high school students. It reminds of myself, who were once going to SAT class for a better score and hoping to get into a good college. Then I started to care about their scores. I started to check whether they improved or not. If they improved their scores, I would tell them to keep it up. If their scores were still the same, I would tell them to work harder.
The math teacher in the SAT class was my high school calculus teacher. I was one of his top students back then. Therefore he trusted me and told me to help him tutor some kids since there are times that too many students need help but there are not enough teachers in the institute. I took it as a very serious job,
Why do I do what I do? I really want to make sure they understand the materials and their mistakes on the exams. I want them to do well and get into good colleges. I do not only want to be a test grader but also be someone who can help them out and make their future brighter.
