The Weather

What ever happens to the Afters? The families of the victims on t.v. after the newsanchor pretends, for a brief second, to hold sympathy for the loved ones. For they surely can not move on from the tragedy as the anchor has. They can not be rid of the pain they feel just as the reporter does every night at 6:00; bearing a seemingly heartfelt, emotive projection of their own empathy, a superficially sincere condolance as she passes on to the "local weather in your area."What happens to them after the cards and flowers and calls stop coming?Do they stop feeling the hurt? The emptiness? What happens after the small things do not cut it and they can not seem to move on?The problem with our society is that we choose, in some way, to be that newsanchor.Spreading stories of trajedy out of mere curiosity, yet calloused involvement. We choose to observe and project our insincere sympathy, but dare not get involved past a heartfelt smile cast in a hurting-one's way; moving on to the pedestrian and safe: the weather.
