Time isn’t wasted, if its spent enjoying it

People always say that playing video games is a waste of time. Growing up with my parents always working and having little spending money for us to go by, my brother and I spend most of our time playing video games and watching television. Having older cousins that would pass on computer games to us allowed to not spend much money while killing many hours of time; however, the reason wasn’t to kill time but because we enjoyed playing almost every game that was passed down to us. One of the few games that I started playing during elementary school were Diablo II on the computer and Pokemon on the Gameboy. Pokemon itself lasted until the game ended, but there was never an end as friends also owned the game and battling each other wasn’t an end until middle school. Diablo II on the other hand was one of the games online that I had played for many years before stopping. It was one of the games that I stopped and picked up again from time to time. It had a lifespan of one of the first computer games I played in third grade and well into middle school. Playing Diablo II for years clearly says something about myself in that I really enjoyed playing it, and not just a way to kill time.

Other than just enjoying playing video games, there really are more than recreational purposes. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I’ve picked up many computer skills by just dealing with the many problems that may arise in just using a computer. Over the years, I’ve picked up how to patch the drivers on my computer, look through piles and piles of internet site rather quickly to find what I need, etc. It also feeds the interest I have in my major today, which is electrical engineering.
