Learn from all that life has to offer, but do not wait to be offered anything. There are opportunities in life that are not just handed to you in a silver plate. Some people are born with everything, but some of us are born with nothing and have to work for what we have.
I was 12 years old when my mom passed away and that’s when I made a commitment to have high goals. I would graduate high school and go to a prestigious University (first in my family). A couple of years later and I had set my eyes set on one place, UCLA.
Then, life struck me with a brick wall. Going to UCLA would not be an easy task, nor would it be free. Though out high school, I only had two goals in mind. One, to make sure I had what it takes to be a bruin and take care of my business to gain profits. In other words, perform well academically to have financial support from those whom saw merit in me.
Working, volunteering and doing sports while maintaining grades was not an easy task, but it was possible. Why work in high school? Life is not free. Why volunteer? My community needed me asked silently for my help and what better way than help at the hospital. Why sports? That was my passion, my stress reliever, and my gate to my childhood memories. Why maintain grades? Those were my weapons, my sledgehammer to break that brick wall.
Strike after strike, I finally managed to break that wall into pieces only to find that UCLA had it’s own walls that would get in my way. Even if it takes more time to break there walls, if I keep striking with enough force there in only one way those one fate for those walls. I will grab my hammer and keep striking away.
