to have a better quality of life!!

What can you do if a man who had his head in bandages that was saturated with blood was dancing in front of you? In the middle of Jun 2007, I saw the most beautiful smile in the world. I was in Christian band and we were invited to a small shelter. To tell you the truth, I was little afraid, because there were many people who had mental problems. Most of them got their brain damages from excessive drug use. I also saw a man who was also physically injured. I heard that about three day ago, one of people who live in the shelter cut his forehead with a knife. I was unconsciously sure that they were just different from me and I thought all they need was help. At that time, I was proud of myself because I believed that I could give them help.

However, during our performance, I realized that they were not different and moreover, they actually gave me a priceless help. When we play a song, “You are Good”, they started to dance with pure smile like little children. Their free dance and big smile were telling me that we are all the same. We all smile when we are happy and cry when we are sad. I was the one of the people who made these simple rules so complicated. In certain situations, I try to hide my true emotions to cover up my weaknesses. They reminded me that in the very bottom of the heart, there is always true.

That day, I finally figured out what I really want to do. At that time, I was not sure about my choice of major, but after I met them, I changed my major to psychology. Why do I do what I do? My answer is, “to have a better quality of life.” Many people might think making lots of money, or getting a good job can provide you a good quality of life, and I think it is true. However, additionally, I believe that whatever you do, if you love what you are doing, you are already having a good quality of life. Helping people to find out what they really want by using my knowledge and experiences is what I want to do. I believe psychology will help me to achieve my goal. I want to share what I have learned from people who were in the shelter with others. I also want to convey the message that our life is not as complicated as we think. I know sometimes I have to face on situations that I do not want to walk through. However, it is my responsibility to take those situations with me to get what I want. I believe my future can compensate for my past effort.
