To Make My Future Brighter

Why do I try so hard on the little things? It started in middle school. When teachers assigned projects no matter what it was for I would always try my hardest. I would always go the extra mile even though half the time it wouldn’t affect my grade. It made me feel better about myself. Whether it was putting a glittery title on my poster to make it pop or printing out pictures in color when they were only required to be in black and white, I always wanted my work to be the best it could be. In high school I was often asked by friends, “why do you try so hard?”. Sometimes I didn’t know. Why would I stay up until 1 o’clock in the morning typing an essay that could have been hand written when I had to wake up at 5 am to go to morning water polo practice? If I didn’t I would be upset with myself, I always hold myself accountable for my actions.  I try my hardest not only in schoolwork but also in many other things in life. I’m on the UCLA women’s water polo team and though I was very talented in high school, collegiate water polo is a whole new level of competition. Though I’m not one of the best on the team that doesn’t mean I don’t try my hardest to improve. If you don’t try to get better at the things you aren’t the best at, are you going to get anywhere in life? My perseverance started in middle school and has only continued to grow. It made me prepared for high school where I continued to push myself in academics, athletics, relationships and more. Now I am fortunate enough to be at UCLA, the most applied-to school in the world. Not only am I lucky enough to be attending this beautiful college I am also a student athlete. I am going to work as hard as I can so that I can establish a solid career and one day be able to support a family with it. When that day finally comes, I will be able to teach my children to work as hard as they can in life because hard work will take you where you want to be. Why do I do what I do? I do what I do To Make My Future Brighter.

  • You work hard. Sometime, we need time to ourselves in order to discover ourselves more. Please do not push yourself too much. You are great enough to be at UCLA.
