A lot of people call me “The Squirrel Guy.” If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look up my first and last name on YouTube, and you’ll know why people call me that. The short version is that I made a video about two squirrels jumping over a wall, and in a matter of weeks it was somewhat of a YouTube sensation. It got so big that it even made it to the front page of Yahoo. Pretty crazy, huh? Before this even happened, I had a goal of being a YouTube star. I had no intention, however, of it being through squirrels. My way of becoming an Internet celebrity was through recording myself singing and hoping people liked it enough to view it hundreds of thousands of times. That never happened though, so for a while my goal faded away. Truth is, I’m a pretty shy guy, so nothing I ever do can really gather that much attention. Nothing that I would realistically do anyway. So even though singing is a big part of what I do, it would not make me a YouTube star. Then came the two squirrels that changed everything. I accomplished my goal, without ever expecting to. While it’s my squirrels that got all the spotlight and not the man behind the camera, I still am called “The Squirrel Guy,” and when people find out that I created the video, they have nothing but nice things to say. Things like this prove that some of the best things you experience in your life will be things you will never be able to plan out. You just have to go with the flow and see what happens. Stress often comes from planning things out too much. Sure, life needs structure, but spontaneity spices things up a bit. That’s why I just let the good times roll and see what happens. Life’s more fun that way.
