I like to observe the world around me and record them. This is what I do and what I like to do, because I think human only have a limited amount of memories and it’s impossible to remember all the wonderful things happening when we tend to only remember the big view. But if we record them every day on camera or on sketchbook then we can always go back to them. As the days goes on people will be surprised of how many things around us that we will miss if we never record them down. These observations that I made are important and useful for me when I design. Every time when I got an assignment that I have no idea for, I start looking at my sketchbook and photos. Buildings, flowers, pathway or even the sky are things that people do not usually notice. They may look like the same everyday but they are always changing. For instance, the blue sky above us is changing every second due to wind, cloud, sun and time. There are more than million combination and view when we look up on to the sky. These little observations that people do not usually care are treasures for me. I am always inspired when I review my old photos and sketches. Sometimes I like to take photograph and sketch on the same object. Even though it the same object but photograph and sketch can give me a totally different sense and inspiration. Photographs record the object that we see but sketch is different; I add my feelings when drawing. Sometimes I feel frustrating then my drawing turns fuzzy and messy but when I am happy, my drawing turns cheerful and colorful. At the time when I was drawing I might not notice it but at the time when I go back and look it is very obvious. Observe and record is what I do. And why I do it? It is because they are important to me so I can remember the beauty around me and appreciate them.
