I always thought my career choice would be somewhere in the medical profession ever since I was a child. Who I wanted to be was a doctor who could help people that are greatly sick and in need of urgent medical attention. I never thought the nature of the way I would help someone would ever be subject to change. This belief that I was going to be a doctor stayed with me all the way till the end of my first year of college. Now that I am in my second year, I see that my passion and desire to help people lies within the field of law. Who I am now is someone who wants to become a lawyer to produce a change in the world by aiding people who face injustice socially in different ways. The particular fields of law that I am interested in are civil rights, labor, and administrative law. I noticed these three fields are of my interest and that this is the type of person I want to be in my life and in the lives of others, because of direct experiences in the past with people who have faced issues that they sometimes felt powerless to receive any help towards. What I do now reflects the realization of my passion towards law and of helping people with their everyday social problems. What I do now involves acquiring jobs, internships, and any type of volunteer work where I can assist people in any way possible with the various problems they might face. For instance, the nature of my work involves doing research on the employment of people in my regional area. I collect knowledge on the working conditions of employees and the oppression that they sometimes face in the sphere of the workplace due to unfair labor practices. Gaining information on workers and their struggles that they face and making the data available for my job is one way that I help assist people indirectly with their problems. I do this activity along with others, because I generally care about the welfare of others in society. I care enough to see that a positive change is made in the world so that maybe one day minority segments in the world will not be oppressed and people can have a better quality of life without injustice.
