WDYDWYD- Matthew Matteucci - Dis 1O

Why do I do what I do? To answer this, I first need to merely scrape the surface by asking "What do I do?". Essentially what I do involves lots of activity (exercise, movement, sports) as well as studies and hanging out with my friends. Thats what I do in a very non-specific way, but what I do is caused and created by the values I hold most closely. Those values would have to be staying active (in shape/healthy) and an attempt to seek out crazy fun.Over winter break of my college freshmen year, I was all about mountain biking. I went on bike rides everyday of winter break that I could, until that fateful day of December 30th, only 2 days before the new year I had my first serious accident on a bike, or for that matter, any sport or activity. What happened was, I was bombing down a 2000 foot hill known as Windy Hill. This hill has a trail that goes straight down the face. And that trail has shelves, where basically the slope is shallow, and then it drops off all of a sudden to a very steep section, creating a lip. So basically, I was bombing down the hill, going roughly 40 mph and this dirt trail. I was hugging the right side of the trail because there was a huge rut on the left side. My shocks were strained, my eyes were watering, and my mind was focused. I was in control, but at the same time, not. I reached the lip, launching myself into the air. As I landed, I noticed a runner directly in front of my path, so I reacted by veering to the left, towards the rut. Normally when I would go towards the rut I would simply bunny hop over it, but today I was going to fast.
