Dean EspyWhat I do…I am dedicated to a game. Baseball is not only who I am its what I do and because of that it opened doors to great things in my life. Some days I wonder why I push myself to the limit everyday for a game. But this game is everything to me and I wouldn't be who I am today without it. The field is my get away from life, and do things that some people see as impossible. Pride, tradition, and glory is what defines me and the manor that I perform my daily routine. Self satisfaction is the reason I have to work so hard because if I come up short I'm not allowing myself to be great. If I didn't have baseball I wouldn't feel like myself. I play for the team and the glory that comes along with winning for anything else is unacceptable. To be able to push yourself for months and months and come away a champion there is nothing greater for me. That's an outcome that is earned not given. Ever since I was a little boy I have dreamed of being a super star and playing in the pros. I was a boy with a dream and have become a man on a mission. The mentality I take to life is never let an opportunity go that will make you better and I learned that from doing what I love. No matter what mood I’m in or how bad my day was it always makes me feel good to be in between the base lines. It is easy to be myself at the field because it makes me feel a sense of calm and serenity that provides clarity to my life. The best part about it is the fact that it is a game. I haven’t ever thought of the game as job and I hope I never do. Baseball is similar to life in that you have to deal with failure on a day to day basis and overcome it to be successful. It has molded me into who I am today and I take the life lessons I learn at practice and apply it to my life. I fortunate enough to do something I love every single day. I chose to be baseball because it is who I am and to have the freedom to play a sport day in and day out I couldn’t be more fortunate. I am one with my self and at peace with the world every day that I play baseball and will always appreciate the opportunities I have because I have earned it.A quote I live by: "I hated every moment of training, but i said suffer now, and live the rest of your life a chamion" Muhammed Ali.
