Cody RegisOctober 9, 2009Who I AmI am Cody Regis, an eighteen year old college freshman at UCLA. I am a brother, a son, a cousin, a friend, and everything in between. But more importantly than all of that, I am a baseball player. When I ask myself why I am a baseball player, my answer is simple, yet at the same time complicated. I play baseball for many reasons. I love the feeling of winning, but more importantly I love the hard work, preparation, dedication, and desire it takes in order to win. When I know that my team has achieved victory, especially when I know that I helped to achieve that victory. The main reason that I have such a high desire or lust for victory is because of how much I hate to lose. I truly cannot stand the feeling I get when I lose anything, whether it be a game or an at bat. It leaves the worst taste in my mouth and it just makes me want to work even harder to try and make sure that I do not have to endure that feeling ever again. I love every element of the game of baseball, from the smell of the fresh-cut grass on an early Saturday morning practice, to the sound of the ball hitting the bat, to hearing the crowd cheer as I step up to the plate, and finally to knowing that when I step into that batter’s box, it is basically a one on one battle against the pitcher. For those short two minutes that seem like an eternity, it is just me and everything I learned and practiced, against the pitcher, and his entire arsenal. I love that in this battle, I will always fail at least sixty five percent of the time, and I always hate failing by getting out. I know this game is a game based on failure, yet I still always strive to be perfect in it. This game truly has done so many great things for me, from keeping me away from doing bad things, to getting me into this prestigious university with the opportunity to play. Words cannot explain how much passion I have for this game. I am Cody Regis, and I am a baseball player.
