I am an adventurer. I do things that require searching. I do this because life is meaningless unless you find your own purpose. We live in a world full of discovery, unknown mysteries, and new avenues. These concepts excite me and push me towards doing what I do. That is meeting a stranger, walking a different way to class then ever before, and trying a new food just for the sake of trying it. I try to say yes to most activities, moving forward fearlessly but in the mindset that I am going to discover something new. With discovery comes understanding and with understanding an identity is formed. I like to let my imagination run wild, forming bits of myself through the characters I read about in stories or view in films. This is part of what I do as well. I piece together parts of my life and of imaginary life to form a colorful existence. Why not search, venture, and journey within the words of a novel or the images of an award winning film.My ideas come from studying existentialism. I am a believer in the idea that the world is essentially meaningless, until we fill it with our own purpose. However, what many do not realize is that the search for purpose is not a lonely one. In the film Into the Wild, the main character attempts to find happiness on a voyage into the wilderness. He hopes to find total isolation, running from the pressures of his community. What he finds in the end is that the journey there, the experiences and the people that taught him lessons, filled him with the most wisdom and happiness. When I say “I am an adventurer” I only mean In relation to the travelers along with me. Friends are what supply the support. I want to live my life knowing that happiness is truly found when spent in the company of others. That while we live in a modern age, an age in which we choose to connect with each other via computer screens and blackberry phones, that deep within ourselves, true human connection still exists. This is why I do what I do. This is why I wake up and turn to a friend and say “good morning.” It is these things that supply me with who I am and allows others to journey towards there own happiness, and their own realization of who they are.
