Amanda GilDaniel RosenboomDiscussion: 1AOctober 16, 2009Why do you do what you do?Who am I:My name is Amanda Annaliese Gil. I am eighteen years old and I am a sophomore at the University of California, Los Angeles. I am six foot five inches and I play on the Women’s UCLA Volleyball team. The words that I believe in and that are most important to me are commitment, love, trust, loyal, respect, dedication, and support. These seven traits apply to my life and the way I play volleyball. What I do:Over the years, I have developed many loving relationships with teammates. Because we were always with one another, many levels of trust were built between everyone. From traveling every weekend to practicing four hours a day, four days a week, an immense amount of dedication and support for one another was needed. It was extremely hard to give that level of a commitment every day, but knowing that there were ten other girls there doing the same thing you were in order to be the best at the sport of volleyball made it worth it. Through playing volleyball, I have had to make many sacrifices, such as eating healthy, avoiding the party life, and being sober, in order to be loyal to the sport and respectful to my teammates. Why do I do it:The reason why I play volleyball and give up so much for the love of the game is because I want to be successful in life. I fight through all the pain, sweat and tears to become a leader and earn the respect of my teammates, coaches and peers. I believe through hard work and preparation anyone can achieve success in life in the same way that an athlete achieves success on the court.
