Why do I do what I do

If someone asks me why do I do what I do, I may reply him/her that “ Because I just want to do it” without much thinking. However when I sit down and think deep about the question. The answer turns to be not that simple. It becomes complex and difficult to answer. Based on my daily life experience and observations, usually I cannot do what I exactly want to do. I believe many people have the same feeling as I do, too. That is why I feel hard to answer the question “why do you do what you do?” in a deeper content. Sometimes I want to sleep but it ends that I have to do my homework first; Sometimes I want to watch a movie but it ends that I listen to music instead; Sometimes I want to do exercises, but it ends that I stay at home and play games; Sometimes I want to buy a new computer but it ends I still use my old laptop. The environment around me often affects what I do and what I want to do. In other words, our environment has a tendency to restrict what we exactly want to do. While the environment does not allow me to do what I want to do, alternatively I will do other things, which may be opposite or similar of what I want to do, to fit into the environment. Even though I usually cannot do what I want to do because of the environment, I feel that what I do in present always has some relationships with what I do in the future. For example, if I want to buy food because I am hungry, I will have to work to gain money first. Working is not what I want to do, but it indeed helps me to achieve what I want to do eventually. As a result, if someone asks me the same question again, “ why do you do what you do?” , I will answer that I do what I do for my goals.Xin Heng Huang
