Would you rather eat red hot coals or stab your foot with a pitchfork to save a friend? In life we are constantly faced with choices leading us down different paths. I am a person defined by my choices, striving to make the right decisions. I choose based off of my socioeconomic background but also based off of my conscience and morals. So what are my morals? To name a few: dignity, honor, respect, compassion, faith, responsibility, consideration. I will not make a thoughtful decision without considering others and understanding its repercussions for myself. I view societies influence on me as negative but I choose to stay involved in order to positively impact society. My choices do not reflect a desire to fit into society nor a desire to go against it purposelessly. To go against for its own sake would not make me a free thinker. I act for my interest and in the interest of those I hold dear to me and I do not shy away from my morals hoping that I may set a good example.I make my choices to come closer to those things in life which are important to me. Experiencing the beauties of life and enjoying every moment is an essential part of life to me. I speak not of hedonism but of simple pleasures, such as relaxation, which I find essential to my existence. But enjoying life fails to satiate my more intellectual appetites. Learning and enlightening myself requires perseverance, thus pleasures must be sacrificed to maintain a balance. For pleasure alone cannot bring me happiness. I attempt to live happily within my means while attempting to expand my means. In the society that I have been placed in and which I choose to stay in, it is largely ones career which affects ones means. I will choose a profession which is beneficial to society, beneficial to myself, and which allows me to expand my means. For me to be happy with my career, I realized that I need to enable or enlighten mankind. I study to become a engineer or scientist to this end.
