Many people want to be different and unique but we are already all that in our own way. We try to become that we ourselves are proud of or think is right. I am someone that listens to only three people: me, myself and I. It is common in an Asian family that the children have to be the best and do their best. I want to be a person that I am proud of that I can say “Yes, that’s me.” My parents have always wanted me to be someone successful; a person that’s makes lots of money. But for myself, I just want to do what I love and be my own person , not someone my parents always talk about that are so wonderful people that have awesome jobs. I want to be independent. I do what I want to do because I can do them. As long as I believe myself and be determined to show other people that I am great in my own way. When we did the exercise “7 values” in class, I had a difficult time choosing which to keep and which to give up. All of my values represent who I am as an individual and taking one away can change me drastically. It seems typical for an Asian to be in the medical field because that is what their parents. It is a different story for me. It was not about the money that comes with the job but that I am able to help people; their smile will brighten my own. That is how my personality is: being helpful. Yes I am the typical person with the dorky glasses but I always have a smile that makes my approachable. That is who I want to be: someone that anybody can confront, someone with personality, and someone that people can say, “That’s my friend”. I do what I do to show this is me, take it or leave it.
